How SINA is slowly taking over the startup scene in Uganda

The month of October has been full of exciting events. We can truly say that many of our formally marginalized youth have undergone a long but powerful process of personal and professional development in SINA, which unleashed their full potentials and they have become leading social entrepreneurs and taking Uganda to the next level!

We want to give a small overview:

  • Our startup Ask Without Shame has been nominated in the appsafrica Awards in two categories (Social Impact and Women in Tech), only one other startup has been nominated in two categores and Ask Without Shame is the only startup going to represent Uganda in South Africa on Nov. 14th for the Award Ceremony.

  • SINA won the PremaGyan Good100 Award at the GoodFestival in Lausanne, Switzerland and is among the top projects promoting sustainable innovation in the world.goodfestival

  • Four of our SINA startups (The Gejja Women Foundation, Gifted Hands Network, Ask Without Shame and Wastics Recycling) have been selected to compete in the Uganda Startup Cup, a global business competition. This means that 30% of all selected startups in Uganda are SINA startups!

  • Our startup Gifted Hands Network made it into the finals of the African Entrepreneurship Award and wlll be flying to Marocco to compete for the 1,000,000 USD prize.

  • Our main hall was opened with a SINA startup pitching event attended by an audience of 100 people and with leading panelists from business (Akright Property Consultants), media (ideaTV), social entrepreneurship (Benconolly Group), investment (BidNetwork) and education (educate!).main-hall-mpigi-uganda-seminar-conference-space-venue

  • SINA has started its first “branch” in form of the SINA University and OPPORTUNIGEE Hub in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement through our refugee scholars, taking SINA to their community. The first week has been a tremendous success, with over 50 motivated young refugees crafting first projects and bulding the space out of plastic bottles. We are very escited for the partnership with Project DEFY and NakivArt to see this new SINA grow and create employment for refugees and in self-organization have them create their own opportunities.
